Justin Stoller

Justin Stoller – Editor

Professional editor with more than fifteen years in book publishing. I edit at all levels, from substantive organization to proofreading.

Overview

A second set of eyes can mean the difference between good work and great work. Whatever the writing, I ensure your thoughts are expressed clearly, powerfully, and concisely. I also check that all work is free of spelling and grammatical mistakes. If you are concerned with language and structure, or simply need someone to proofread your work, I can help.

I’ve been a book publishing professional for more than fifteen years. I started my career in London, UK, as a production editor for a science and academic publisher. In Canada, I moved into trade book publishing in the editorial department of Penguin books. I now acquire and edit nonfiction for Simon & Schuster Canada, including memoir, comedy, pop-culture, sports, history, politics, and general gift books. I’ve worked with internet sensations, sports icons, travel writers, TV stars, and more. I've worked and lived in the US, UK, and Canada, and understand regional differences in spelling and word use.

Books I've edited have been recognized by numerous awards, including The Writers' Trust Prize, The Charles Taylor Prize, The Governor General’s Award, The Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize, The Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour, The Margaret and John Savage First Book Award (Atlantic Book Awards), and The Ontario Library Service North – Northern Lit Awards.

I also have a keen interest in journalism and social sciences. I’ve done freelance work with ESL students (undergrad, graduate, and PhD levels) to ensure academic work is expressed clearly and error free.

I enjoy writing original pieces, and occasionally publish online or in community newspapers. When I’m not pushing words around, I’m usually making a fool of myself playing one sport or another, or trying to become a better musician.

Before work begins, I ask for a sample of your writing project so I can assess what level of editing is appropriate and estimate how much time I will need. Once we agree on the editing, deadline, and hourly rate, then I get to work. Once you have reviewed the edited work, I am happy to make minor changes at no extra cost as it’s important to me that you’re pleased with the results.

Thank you and I look forward to working together.
