Overview
For more than three decades, I’ve worked with writers from first-time authors to prize-winning voices. Many of my clients come to me with manuscripts that are already strong but need a careful edit to reach their full potential. I explain my changes wherever useful, so that you not only improve your manuscript, but also continue developing as a writer. My approach is collaborative, precise, and attentive.
In memoir, I specialize in helping authors shape complex, often deeply personal material into clear, compelling narratives without losing emotional truth. Whether you’re writing about trauma, resilience, or transformation, I offer both editorial rigor and genuine respect for the courage it takes to tell these stories.
In historical fiction, I focus on narrative flow, tonal consistency, and the balance between accuracy and invention, so the world you’ve created feels seamless, immersive, and alive to the reader.
I’m also the author of six traditionally published books, including a memoir and two historical novels set in the 18th and 19th centuries (Marked for Life, Fireside/Crown; An Unofficial Marriage, Arcade; Anything but Yes, Monkfish), so I understand the publishing process from the inside.
My job is to help writers achieve their goals, acting as a coach and cheerleader. Wherever possible, I explain my changes so that the manuscript improves while the author grows as a writer.
I won’t overwrite your voice, but I will:
- identify and resolve inconsistencies in logic, structure, and pacing
- refine language for clarity, flow, and impact
- strengthen narrative coherence at both the sentence and story level
What it’s like to work with me:
- I offer a trial edit of two to three pages, so you can assess fit before committing.
- I like to begin with a conversation to be sure I understand your concerns.
- Then I go through your book at least twice to provide a detailed line edit , margin notes, and I write an editorial letter addressing structure, pacing, and overall effectiveness.
- After you’ve reviewed the edits, I’m happy to schedule a follow-up conversation to discuss questions, next steps, and your path forward—whether that’s querying agents, approaching publishers, or self-publishing.
I'm a member of the Authors Guild, the Editorial Freelancer Association, and the European Association of Creative Writing Teachers.
I can't wait to work with you.
