Jennifer Schuster

Jennifer Schuster – Editor

Passionate, empathetic editor of bestselling, award-winning nonfiction with 15 years of publishing experience.

Overview

Throughout my fifteen years in publishing, I have worked with many authors develop, execute and publish books, achieve critical acclaim, and reach their desired readership with much success. As a well-respected member of the publishing community, I am known for my natural connection with authors, keen editorial eye, and unparalleled attention to detail. I help authors shape their ideas, polish their prose, and refine their manuscripts to deliver compelling, unique and valuable books for readers—the ultimate goal!

I spent more than a decade as an acquiring editor at major publishers, including most recently as an executive editor at Penguin Random House, and as such I have an invaluable insider perspective on what acquiring editors and literary agents are looking for in proposals.

While specializing largely at the cross sections of pop culture, social/cultural issues, lifestyle, and memoir, I have worked with high-profile, acclaimed, and New York Times bestselling authors, including: pop icon Jennifer Lopez; sports legend Pelé; actress and Times’s Up organizer Amber Tamblyn; transgender activist Sarah McBride; hip hop radio legend Angie Martinez; as well as actors Mario Lopez, George Lopez, Jon Cryer, and Jennie Garth, among many others.

To best help authors at various stages of the writing process, I offer services including a full developmental edit, an editorial assessment, and publishing consultation with practical advice on how to proceed with the writing or publishing processes.

As a new writer I was anxious about putting my work out there to be reviewed by an editor. I did not know what to expect and was unsure if I really wanted to take this next step. But I did. And I am so glad that I did. Jen was kind and supportive from our first interaction. She suggested an editorial assessment as opposed to a developmental edit and I think that was a good call. Her feedback wa...
