Eight years of experience in Christian non-fiction, theology, and short-form tech writing. Looking to expand into technology and memoir.
Overview
“You are going to need to trust your ghost completely because you will be telling them everything.” – Andrew Crofts I’m a trustworthy ghost who's been ghostwriting in Christian non-fiction and technology for eight years. In the technology space I’ve ghosted blogs, e-books, white papers, and more for subject matter experts in cybersecurity, AI, mobile marketing, and data and analytics. Clients include Adobe, Acxiom, and Tektronix. Within the Christian market, I’ve worked as a ghostwriter and editor (developmental and copyediting) for children’s and adult fiction and non-fiction books. Houses include Zonderkidz, Zondervan, Thomas Nelson, and Baker Publishing. * * * MY CREATIVE PROCESS (OR: HOW I WORK WITH CLIENTS) Phase 1 | Listening My creative process includes first and foremost listening to my clients. What do you want to create? What final product do you want to hold in your hands? Phase 2 | Defining Next, we spend time clearly defining three things: The Scope of Work also known as “the SOW” (not to be confused with an adult female swine) The project deliverables The deadlines (which I lovingly refer to as “the Deads”) This phase involves mutual agreements so that we can all start off on the same page, knowing where we’re going and how we’re going to get there. Phase 3 | Creating Next, we begin the creative process. I begin creating (drafting) your deliverables for you and delivering them to you in manageable pieces. I like to avoid “the overwhelm” -- that feeling that comes upon us when facing a mountain-sized project. At this point, you’ll provide me with invaluable feedback in the form of your thoughts, opinions, revisions, etc. Am I headed in the right direction? Is this deliverable what you envisioned? I highly value my clients’ honest feedback. Have no fear in speaking your mind here. Phase 4 | Revising Depending on your deliverables, the revision process can go through one to three phases (drafts0 until a beautiful, finished product is created. In this phase, we persevere, and quite patiently. My rates are reasonable and negotiable. I’d love to hear more about your project. * * * CLIENT TESTIMONY (1) “Janay is one of the best technology writers that I have ever worked with. At Adobe, she helped me to develop some leading edge thought leadership related to mobile marketing technology including location beacons, augmented reality and in-app messaging. Janay rapidly absorbed the research that I provided and created blogs that captured my voice and perspective on mobile marketing. Most recently at Acxiom, I hired Janay to develop eBooks and blogs for marketing solutions related to omnichannel personalization, data management platforms and consumer data. Again, she quickly mastered the complicated subject matter and developed long form assets that were used to fuel demand generation for Acxiom. B2B high tech companies should definitely consider hiring Janay for their most challenging writing projects.” — Ray Pun, Research Director, Gartner (2) “Whenever we have a need for clear and creative writing, whether it’s a film proposal, synopsis or general content, we always contact Janay first. Her ability to concisely and beautifully capture the essence of our projects is a huge asset. Because of her skills, we have been able to effectively communicate our vision to our donors and customers. We consider her a valuable member of our team and an integral part of our success." — Dave Mahanes, Co-Founder + President, Deidox Films (3) “Janay is a remarkably talented person. She is very smart, a gifted editor, and thinks ahead on projects. We’ve worked together on many projects and will continue to do so on many more.” — Chris Hudson, Owner, Hudson Bibles
