Overview
I am a rigorous but warm and collaborative editor with over ten years' experience in publishing and a specialism in art, history, literary non-fiction, and children's. I've worked on many critically acclaimed books on art, as well as Nobel-prize-winning literary non-fiction and Children's-Laureate-authored poetry. Whatever stage your project is at, and whatever your vision for it, I'm excited to work with you on making it the best it can be.
My most recent full-time role was as Managing Editor of Afterall books, before which I was an editor at Thames & Hudson. Since then I have freelanced for publishers like Fitzcarraldo Editions and Wide Eyed Editions.
As a published author myself, I have a rounded understanding of what makes for good editing and a strong editorial relationship. I have written books for 'Big 5' publishers (PRH; S&S), as well as illustrated presses (Mack Books) and independents (Peninsula Press), and bring to the editorial table a writer's ear for rhythm and cadence as well as the more technical qualities of accuracy, clarity and style. That said, my aim is to help writers push their own work to be exceptional, never to intrude on their unique voice or vision.
I can offer meticulous copyediting and proofreading, but am also keen to work with authors on developing their work from a rough draft to something that's ready for publication. I can also work with publishers to project-manage titles from drafts to print-ready files.
