Hope Ellis

Hope Ellis – Editor

I am a NY publishing professional and provide freelance copyediting and proofreading services (fiction--all genres; nonfiction--I'm picky).

Overview

I work at Penguin Random House in New York and freelance on the side. If your project has been through a round of editing (or two) and the plot, character development, and pacing are all hammered out, then I can help you smooth everything out. Even if you think you've got a good eye (and you might!), copyediting can make the difference between a pleasurable read and a frustrating one. Think of it as a final polish to avoid the distracting "wince factor."

My services include copyediting (truly the most important post-editing stage), proofreading, cold reading, and e-book quality control. I generally follow the Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.

Please note I will most likely not be able to turn a project around in less than two weeks. Otherwise, please feel free to get in touch with the details of your project.

Hope has done a great job. She spotted issues and made suggestions which have made a big impact on my work. Her attention to detail was very good. She noticed things and made notes so I could easily identify the problem and correct it. I hope I can work with her again real soon.
