Holly Edgar – Editor

I help people make great ideas into exciting products. Editor with 10+ years of non-fiction editing and project-managing at Macmillan.

Overview

I help people have great ideas and make them into exciting, successful products - on the page and online. I'm an experienced commissioning and development editor with project management skills and a background in educational and non-fiction publishing (especially (Caribbean) schools, EAL needs and humanities, social studies, history, politics).

I offer copyediting, proofreading and development-editing services for all kinds of non-fiction materials, including digital resources (user-testing and answer-checking) and audio.

Got a book in you? Let me help you make it brilliant! I'm an avid reader, a kind but firm critic, and good with words. I’ve got great writing and editing skills and can learn your style and infuse it into our work. I also have lots of experience managing a team of writers and reviewers, working with them to develop and assign projects that build on their areas of specialization, while maintaining excellence in content delivery across the team. I can work one on one with you to perfect your manuscript before it's submitted to really nail tone, content and style. I'm experienced at working across countries and cultures, and quickly develop content expertise, asking questions and proactively filling gaps in knowledge.

I'm happy to edit/proofread a variety of content including books, series, partnership proposals, marketing and campaign collateral, email and print correspondence, and reports, making sure all of your products reflect any organizational brand, voice, and messaging, ensuring accuracy and quality throughout.

I'm particularly interested in materials that emphasise equity of representation, both in the production team and the product itself, and hope to educate myself too as we go.

I can handle both short- and long-term projects, particularly in narrow time frames, and manage complex, fast-moving and unexpected situations collaboratively and creatively.

I can also get REALLY involved and provide end to end delivery of your project from concept to closure, helping to develop your business case, plan and define the end product and appropriate delivery approach, reporting on and managing your budget, finding and allocating resources ... you get the idea. I'm comfortable with producing high-level reports and running detailed production meetings - whatever you need from me to get the job done efficiently and to a high standard with common sense and good humour.
