Overview
I'm an award-winning Italian into English translator based in NYC. I'm direct, analytical, and full of ideas on how to bring out the best in your project. On the other hand, I'm skilled at holding space for your thoughts and ensuring that your unique voice resonates throughout the work.
I hold an MA in Italian Literature from Middlebury College and an MFA in Fiction and Literary Translation from CUNY—Queens College. After graduating, I went on to complete residencies at Bread Loaf and the Vermont Studio Center. I was lucky enough to train with some of the best in the business, and was able to begin translating full time while I was still earning my MFA, working on fiction projects out of Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese.
As a translator, my job is not only to ensure accuracy—I consider that to be basic—but to craft a memorable voice in English that carries the work and conveys it to an English-speaking readership. Once I've established that, I'm always on the lookout for opportunities to sharpen the work according to the demands of the English-speaking market, be it through localization or light developmental editing. Once any and all suggestions are resolved with the author, I deliver a final, proofread manuscript, subsequently working on further passes with any other professionals, such as proofreaders, copy-editors, and developmental editors, as required.
