Overview
I have worked with books for over twenty years. I became self employed in 2018 after almost two decades working in commercial book retail for both large chains and small indies. I now offer bespoke editorial services to writers and the literature sector.
My editorial work includes proofreading, line editing and copyediting. I am a trained proofreader and Intermediate Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading. I proofread and edit poetry, commercial and literary fiction, romance, thrillers, short stories, anthologies and narrative nonfiction, including memoir.
I work with a range of titles by independent publishers, as well as with several of the 'Big Six' publishers. This includes working with Macmillan, Headline and Simon & Schuster on hugely successful and well-reviewed titles, as well as with the award-winning Canongate and independent Scottish publishers.
The combination of my editorial experience and my long-standing sales background makes me perfectly placed to guide clients through the publishing process. I offer attuned editorial guidance alongside a strong eye for commercial viability. I also offer specialist support to clients looking to feature Scottish characters or Scots language narrative and/or dialogue in their work.
Whether I work on one or more stages of a publishing project with a client, I work from the outset to build a strong client relationship and a clear, shared goal. I am a writer's (and publisher's) ally. I love the books I edit and proofread, and I love to champion them when they're out in the world!
