Overview
I am who you want to help you get discovered! I have a thirty-plus-year track record in finding that stand-out submission in the piles of possibles. My editorial stable has included everyone from NYT bestsellers, both established (RaeAnne Thayne; Christine Rimmer; Elizabeth Bevarly) and new (Teri Wilson; Melissa Senate). I know the tropes that are in demand--western; secret baby; found family; second-chance romance; holiday stories; for-the-sake-of-the-will/ranch/business books, to give a few examples. I have a demonstrated expertise in Jewish editorial, (Jennifer Wilck; Rebecca Crowley) and I have acquired a substantial amount of BIPOC authors (Darby Baham; Michelle Lindo-Rice) and LGBTQ+ editorial. (Elle Douglass) as well.
I can start with query letters from new authors--or with query/blurb/synopsis/proposal from more established ones, giving me the elevator pitch for their book and what if any house, line or program they are aiming for. I would need word count, or prospective word count, as well as the tone of the work and what would make your book stand out. Editorial assessment can start there, if need be. If you have a proposal, I can review it, annotate it, and help you revise if necessary. If your book is already in draft form, I can do a developmental edit on it, and we can work together to get it into the best possible shape for submission. Once your work is in a more final state, after we have done a developmental edit, if you need line editing, I typically do that as well.
Here is what some of the New York Times authors I've worked with had to say about me....
"What sets Gail apart is her rare combination of meticulous editorial precision and genuine nurturing . She doesn't just edit manuscripts. She helps authors become better writers."--Seventeen-time New York Times bestselling author RaeAnne Thayne.
"Gail has the rare gift of seeing both the big picture and smallest details in a story, and her editorial guidance never fails to make good books even better. I can't recommend her highly enough."--New York Times bestselling author Teri Wilson.
"Gail is gifted at immediately pinpointing editorial issues, and her points are always shared with sensitivity and a belief in her author's talent and potential and possibilities. Writers who get to work with Gail are very lucky."--New York Times bestselling author Melissa Senate.
