Tom Feltham

Tom Feltham – Editor

Copy-editor and proofreader. 10+ years editing commercial, academic and literary content for publishers including Oneworld and Hachette.

Overview

I'm a freelance editor with a decade of in-house experience editing content for the Wellcome Trust, Amazon UK and Thomson Reuters, and now approaching a decade freelancing as a copy-editor and proofreader for publishers including Hachette, Oneworld and Hurst. I hold professional proofreading and copy-editing certifications, a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature and a Master's Degree in Creative Writing.

As both a creative writing graduate and an experienced editor across multiple genres, I know how to help craft a story and provide constructive feedback and when to let a writer's voice speak for itself. As a one-time editor for the world's largest medical research charity (The Wellcome Trust), a tech behemoth (Amazon) and a media information company (Thomson Reuters), I know how to communicate often complex information to a variety of audiences while maintaining a strong, consistent voice. Finally, as a proofreader and copy-editor of academic books for Hurst, Oneworld and Reaktion, I'm adept at fact-checking and formatting reference-heavy texts and helping them reach both specialists and those encountering a subject for the first time.

So whether you've written a research thesis, a detective novel, a space odyssey, a laboriously researched biography or some tricksy combination of all of the above, I'm here to help. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

Working with Tom has been great. I was a bit uneasy thinking that my writing would be brushed and groomed into something that is "standard"; but Tom found the perfect balance between improving the text and letting my voice come through. He was much quicker than I expected, and his manner was friendly and professional at the same time. It'll be a pleasure to go back to him next time round. Many ...

Communicating with Tom was pleasant and easy; he answered all of my extra questions, and the job was done fast. I really liked that before the start of the project he gave me a couple of pages as an example of what kind of editing he would do, so I had a better understanding of what I could expect. However, I checked the edited text thoroughly, and I did not feel that it would be sufficient to...
