Elana Cohen

Elana Cohen – Editor

I am a seasoned commercial, romance, and YA fiction editor with years of experience in several of the most competitive publishing houses.

Overview

As a publishing professional with nearly a decade of editing experience with Simon & Schuster and Disney Publishing Worldwide, my areas of expertise truly run the gamut in genre and audience, from romance and women's fiction to young adult and even middle grade. At Simon & Schuster I spent 4 years honing my skills in the romance, women's fiction, and contemporary fiction fields, working with best-selling authors on their books from conception through execution and publication. Since moving to Disney in 2017, I've had the opportunity to indulge in all things Young Adult and Middle Grade, specializing in concepting against Disney IP and then bringing those ideas to life through sourcing the right talent, signing up top-tier marquee authors, and liaising with the design, marketing, publicity, and sales divisions to ensure these titles are positioned for optimal success in a crowded and disruptive marketplace.

I pride myself on thorough, timely feedback and excellent relationship maintenance with my authors. From the moment I contract with an author, I am available anytime for troubleshooting, ideating, or just chatting about your ideas and where you see them going. I provide both a large-scale conceptual/developmental edit, as well as going through a manuscript line by line. I anticipate multiple back-and-forth conversations with my authors on revisions, to get the manuscript to where you and I are both satisfied with the finished product. Your work is your baby, and when I edit your book, I pledge to give it the same amount of love, attention, and care that you do!
