Dorothea Taylor

Dorothea Taylor – Designer

Illustrator/designer, specializing in bringing storytelling to life through lively imagery.

Overview

I am an illustrator/designer with a special love for words and pictures. I am also a writer and my children's book titled "There's a Dragon in my Closet" was published by Simon and Schuster. In an age of all things digital, I still love the printed page and I’m an avid reader. My work has a timeless feel with a touch of modern flair. Some of my early influences are art deco and classic travel posters. My illustration style is what I call “designustration”. Not only do I illustrate, but I also have a knack for typography and title design. I like to integrate the two into one harmonious image. I currently run a design/illustration studio in Stone Mountain, GA. We‘ve worked with a lot of high profile clients and I’ve built a career on customer satisfaction.

I love the process of taking a story or an idea and bringing it to life. One of my most gratifying feelings comes from creating works that really satisfy a client’s vision. My process starts with a deep dive into the clients’ vision, creating a mood board and then developing rough thumbnail concepts. Once we hone in on the direction, the real creativity begins!

Testimonials:
“Working with Dorothea was a dream! Our organization found her work online, and we were taken aback by the quality of her designs. We found her illustrations to be evocative, inspirational, modern, and simply impeccable. We reached out to her, and received a prompt response. When it came time to coordinate the artwork we were hoping to commission, Dorothea took our thoughts and requests into consideration, and the level of customer service was above reproach. In the end, we received artwork that was totally in line with our expectations, and then some. We would rate our experience with Dorothea as a 10 out of 10, and would jump at the opportunity to work with her again!” ~ Kelsea Médard, Grow By Three

"It was a pleasure working with TP Design Services. They made the process smooth and worry free. My artist, Dorothea worked with me to create a unique design for my T-shirt line. She kept me involved in the process from concept to completion and delivered a design that I was very pleased with. Definitely will do business with them again." ~ Michael Williams, Detroit, MI

Work experience

Self-employed

Aug, 1992 — Present

My company is a multidisciplinary design firm that works on a vast array of assignments. Because we have the ability to design, illustrate and create lettering design we are the perfect one-stop shop. We refer to our style as designustration because we integrate illustration and typography seamlessly into a cohesive unit. The thread the binds our work is a sense of vibrancy and playfulness.

Dorothea was a pleasure to work with. Since my book is set in 1963 and is primarily about horses, she did a good job working from vintage reference photos and links I sent her to capture the by-gone settings of that time period. She also was willing to learn the importance of facial expressions of the main character horse. She remarked once she had no idea how important a horse's ears are to...

This was my first time going through the self-publishing process, I literally knew nothing about it, especially the art aspect. Dorothea Taylor was very patient and went through everything with me so that I never felt overwhelmed. She set expectations early in the process and met all of the deadlines. I would highly recommend her services.

Dorothea's illustrations brought my book to life. She understood my vision from our communication and was able to surpass my expectations. Dorothea welcomed the idea of my book without hesitation which was truly appreciated. I am extremely grateful for her collaboration and would absolutely work with her again.
