Overview
I'm the rare book designer whose publishing experience goes beyond design, having worked in several book production roles, including Director of Production. I've designed and laid out countless books, in addition to supervising the entire production process at small publishing houses, which includes responsibilities such as evaluating proposals, hiring and managing designers, print procurement, scheduling, and much more. This broad experience allows me to provide clients with excellent guidance for all their production needs, and to design and construct books with the experience of someone who has seen, done, and managed it all.
I pride myself in creating clean books and having every detail perfectly in place. Most importantly, I know that book design is more than a nice-looking page; good design is about function—it has to accommodate all of the manuscript's needs, it has to print well, and it has to be effortless to read.
One fun career highlight was having Anthony Bourdain offer an endorsement for a cookbook I designed, which I happily placed on the front cover; he later signed my copy of the book on the page he was featured on. Another surreal experience was having the honor of meeting world-famous artist Samia Halaby in her apartment/art studio to offer a consultation on a book she was planning. But the most rewarding moments are when an author first sees how I laid out their book and is excited to finally see their work set beautifully on a page.
