David Klein

David Klein – Editor

I'm a versatile editor, writer, copy editor, fact-checker, and proofreader with experience in all types of print and digital media.

Overview

For 20+ years, I've worked as an editor, a copy editor, and a proofreader—everything from philosophy journals to memoirs, magazines, alt-weeklies, and online publications. I'm also a writer, a podcaster, a former classroom teacher, and a lifetime word person. Recently, I’ve edited three books for Interlink Books, a Massachusetts-based publisher, including an award-winning novel translated from Iraqi and a memoir by a former member of the Beach Boys. I love taking on different kinds of editorial projects and meeting their various unique challenges. My goal is to make words sing, whatever the context.

When I edit, my main concern is to preserve the author’s voice and intent while making the text flow as clearly and effortlessly as possible. Depending on the author’s wishes, I can take a light hand and focus strictly on typos and small errors, or I can make suggestions as to phraseology, structure, or other factors. I’ve written numerous articles, a nonfiction book about music and pop culture, and a soon-to-be-published memoir, so I am well attuned to both the life of the writer and the value of the editor.
