Danielle Goodman

Danielle Goodman – Editor

I help thought leaders turn their big ideas into books.

Overview

I've been an independent developmental editor for 15 years, working on NYT bestsellers like A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor by Hank Green and Confessions of An Economic Hitman and Touching The Jaguar by John Perkins. Other bestselling titles include John Hope Bryant's Financial Literacy for All, Up From Nothing, and The Memo; Natalie Nixon's The Creativity Leap; Jennifer Kahnweiler's Introvert-Friendly Workplaces; Katherine Cramer's Lead Positive; Sharon Rowe's The Magic of Tiny Business, Helene Lerner's The Confidence Myth; and Martha and Hayden Sears' The Healthy Pregnancy Journal.

Subject matter experts trust me with their big ideas. I work with them to demystify the book-writing process and guide them from:

Idea to Outline

- Develop book plans and outlines

- Refine book pitches for proposals

Outline to First Draft

- Flesh out chapter content

- Provide writing support and accountability

First Draft to Final

- Conduct editorial assessments

- Conduct sensitivity (aka diversity aka perspective) reviews

- Develop revision plans

- Edit manuscripts

I love words, I love new ideas, and I have a talent for shaping the way great ideas are brought to life and consumed on the page.

I work with authors to organize their thoughts into complete and compelling narratives. I work with diction to strike the exact right tone. I refine messages by asking the hard questions and suggesting possible answers. I have a gentle but firm hand with authors that wins their trust; they know that I'm helping them to be the best version of themselves and showcase the best version of their big ideas.

Originally from Trinidad, I’ve lived in Miami, LA, and since 2012, San Francisco. I am particularly interested in prescriptive non-fiction books that center the experiences of immigrants, people of color, and women, and that help individuals create the space for all of their identities to thrive.

Danielle is just awesome. A great mix for a developmental editor: big picture thinking combined with tactical recommendations as well. She totally "got" my book on the first read, without a lot of background info or even a briefing call. Plus, she's an absolutely pleasure to work with. 5-stars. 💪🏽💛
