Dana Knowles – Editor

I've been working in publishing for the past four years and I'm currently taking a break from full-time work, balancing my time with freelance work while taking some courses. I love working with authors to help them see their book ideas and manuscripts through the editorial and publication processes. I am available for editorial assessments, proofreading, and developmental editing.

My career in publishing started in 2018 when I transitioned from freelance writing to an assistant editor role at Oxford University Press. During my time at OUP, I commissioned authors to write approximately 150 articles each year for Oxford Bibliographies Online across six subject areas: African American Studies, African Studies, Chinese Studies, Latin American Studies, Latino Studies, and Public Health. I worked with authors to help them structure their articles according to the Oxford Bibliographies Online style guide, reviewing and editing each article before initiating the peer review process.

In 2020, I started a new role as an associate editor at Springer Nature where I acquired and published books for the Birkhäuser imprint’s Mathematics portfolio. I worked closely with authors starting at the proposal stage, oversaw the peer review process, prepared final manuscripts for handover to production, and wrote marketing copy for each book.

In addition to editing and developing proposals and manuscripts and crafting jacket and marketing copy, I worked closely with marketing and production on jacket design and book promotion strategy. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
