Dan Coxon – Editor

I'm a freelance editor, copy-editor and proofreader, working with both traditional publishers and self-publishing authors.

Overview

I'm a freelance editor, copy-editor and proofreader. My services include - but are not limited to - editorial advice, copy-editing, proofreading, developmental editing, critiques and ebook production. I recognise that every project is different, and every client has unique requirements, including budget. I aim to be as flexible as possible, offering bespoke services tailored to the needs of each project. I'm particularly interested in working with independent publishers and self-publishing authors.

Clients include: Titan Books; The History Press; Elliott & Thompson; Urbane Publications; Influx Press; Flame Tree Press; Dodo Ink; Unsung Stories; Little Island Press. I'm happy working in most genres of fiction, but especially horror, science fiction, fantasy, crime and thrillers, as well as literary fiction. As for non-fiction, my experience is in general history titles, military history, sports, biographies and memoirs.

I have worked as a freelance writer and editor for over ten years, writing fiction and non-fiction for print and online markets in the UK and the US. My New Zealand travel memoir was used as background research for a major ITV documentary, while my fiction anthology Being Dad (Tangent, 2016), won Best Anthology 2016 at the Saboteur Awards. I most recently edited and curated This Dreaming Isle for Unsung Stories, a collection of seventeen short stories inspired by British folklore, including new work by Andrew Michael Hurley, Alison Moore, Ramsey Campbell and Jenn Ashworth. I have previously taught creative writing workshops at Richard Hugo House, Seattle, and I'm currently Contributing Editor at The Lonely Crowd. I am a member of the Society of Authors, an Associate Member of the Horror Writers Association, and a Professional Member of the Society for Editors & Proofreaders.
