I'm an academic with a BA in linguistics and an MSc and PhD in archaeology. My research concerned the evolution of language in our species, and the teaching and learning of Palaeolithic stone tool technology. I'm fascinated by why we speak/sign and how, and most of all 'when' it all started. As I've been through the academic publication process, I know the language and style journals and publishers want.

I have been a professional proofreader and copyeditor since 2020, and have worked for a number of publishers from Bloomsbury Sigma to Cambridge University Press. To date I've worked with over 120 individual clients! Topics include archaeology (archeology), linguistics, history, prehistory, natural history, cognitive science, humanities and the social sciences.

I used to teach English, and have been formally trained in doing so, so I am also a great choice if you are an English learner or non-native speaker. It means I can explain any strange English grammar rules to you, or why a different word makes better sense.

And finally, I'm Canadian and live in the UK, and my brain works happily in both American and British English styles. I also have professional editing qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading.

I live in the English countryside in a little cottage with my partner and my cat, and I love nothing more than spending my days passing my scrupulous eyes over your work. Let's get in touch!
