Marissa Constantinou

Marissa Constantinou – Editor

Developmental editor who loves literary fiction, upmarket commercial fiction, memoir and non-fiction about culture, identity and society.

Overview

I started my career at the big four publisher Picador, where I worked for five years across literary fiction, non-fiction and classics. I project managed titles from delivery to publication, assessed submissions and assisted high profile directors. For the last two years I've been at independent press Boundless Publishing Group, where I became a Commissioning Editor. Here I've worked closely with debuts to shape early-stage drafts into fully-formed books that have gone on to be listed for The Wainwright Prize, The New Angle Prize, The Fortnum and Mason Awards and The Ondaatje Prize.

As a developmental editor, my first aim is to understand your vision for your book. What are the main points or themes you're trying to get across? Which specific areas are you having trouble with? Where do you want your story to sit on bookshop shelves? We'll agree on the direction you want to go down, then I'll get to work with a detailed line and structural edit to boost your plot, pacing and positioning. I'm a very collaborative editor, so you will find lots of questions and creative ideas in my notes in order to help you achieve the best possible version of your book.
