Angus Ledingham

Angus Ledingham – Editor

Former Managing Editor with experience editing both fiction and non-fiction (politics, philosophy, art). Ph.D. in English from Yale.

Overview

I am a freelance editor with experience of working on both fiction and non-fiction titles. I specialise in editing prose for clarity and readability.

In my previous role I was the Managing Editor at the independent publisher ERIS, where my responsibilities at various points touched on rights acquisitions, publicity, and logistics. I was also the primary liaison with the press's external sales team. Clients can therefore feel confident that I have a strong overview of the publishing process.

Before embarking on my publishing career I completed a Ph.D. in English Language and Literature at Yale University, where I also taught three undergraduate composition classes.

‘A brilliant editor with a sharp eye for cutting while preserving the core message. Highly organized and consistent... A self-starter who takes the initiative, sets up efficient shared systems, and is always available and reliable.’— Janet Gough OBE, author of ‘Divine Light: The Stained Glass of England's Cathedrals’ and ‘Cathedral Treasures of the Church of England’

‘We worked with Angus for over a year on “No Politics but Class Politics”…. It not only would have been much less fun without Angus, it would have been nowhere near the book we wanted it to be. His patience, perseverance, editorial ingenuity and just plain good judgment were essential at every stage. He’s a great editor.’—Professor Walter Benn Michaels, co-author of ‘No Politics but Class Politics’

‘The final manuscript of “The Stoic Habit” benefitted considerably from Angus' suggestions and comments. He smoothed out and streamlined my writing while also providing useful feedback that pushed me to elevate the content.’—Dr Bob Robinson, author of ‘The Stoic Habit: Practical Wisdom for Mastering a Mindset to Handle Anything’

‘I have found Angus to be one of the most gifted, incisive, and dependable book editors I have ever known. His editorial instinct is matched by a rare sensitivity to an author’s voice and an unerring ability to bring out the very best in a manuscript. Every project in his hands has emerged sharper, truer, and more alive.’—Alex Stavrakas, publisher at ERIS
