Overview
I work on texts of all shapes, sizes and scopes, adjusting my process along the way to accommodate each project’s unique context, form, audience and voice, and each writer's particular needs. I love working within parameters to maximize the effectiveness of a piece of writing; I love enhancing language to reveal the possibility of surprise—or to simply sharpen a sentence and clarify its meaning.
I have more than a decade of experience proofing and editing across many disciplines, including academic, literary, corporate, governmental, nonprofit, healthcare and advertising. I hold an ACES Certificate in Editing from the Poynter Institute.
Additionally, I hold two MFAs (one in Poetry/one in Fiction) and teach in an MFA program for creative writing where I work one-on-one with graduate students on their writing projects (novels-in-progress, short stories, essays, poetry collections, hybrid works), helping them connect to and develop their voice and style, and to craft their vision into compelling language. I've done this individualized critique work for the past 12 years, and have extensive experience in a wide range of genres: YA, sci fi, fantasy, LGBTQ fiction, literary fiction, historical fiction, memoir, poetry, hybrid works.
I'm also a writer, and I've published three collections of poetry and a novel. Most recently, I co-edited The New Sentience: Reimagining Animal Poetry, just published by Trinity University Press. All of this is to say: language is my life, and I'd love to work with you on your project.
