Overview
I have been illustrating picture books since 1988 when I won the Macmillan Prize for 'Bushvark's First Day Out'.
This title also won the Mother Goose Award for best newcomer to children's books.
Since then I have authored over twenty books and illustrated more than seventy, including the internationally best selling 'Sometimes I Like To Curl Up In A Ball' (which was runner up in the Kate Greenaway Medal) and ‘It’s Lovely When You Smile’ ( by Sam McBratney), which was chosen as part of Dolly Parton’s ‘Imagination Library’.
I specialise in animal characters (both fictional and non fictional), using water colour and pencils.
Publishers include: Macmillan/Puffin/Simon & Schuster/Gullane/Walker/Nosy Crow/Templar & Hodder.
I am best known for my colourful and comical characters, but I really enjoy doing darker edgier stuff too.
Monsters are a big fave!
I am open to a variety of illustration jobs including book covers, cartoons and animal caricatures (for example, goofy pet portraits).

I am a traditional Children’s illustrator, using watercolour to create fantastical and comical pictures (with as strong bias towards animals, or made- up creatures ). I have around 70 published titles ranging from cute , for little ones to scary, for older children. I have also provided cover illustrations for a number of children’s novels, such as ‘the Giggler Treatment’ by Roddy Doyle.
