Overview
In terms of my recent projects, these range from editing a 250,000-word academic volume to proofreading journal articles and blog posts. I am always happy to tackle projects of any size, no matter how big or small.
Through my academic work, I have developed the skills to assist writers in different ways – from constructing coherent arguments and crafting snappier sentences to checking references, correcting spelling errors, and spotting inconsistencies. I love working alongside authors from different academic disciplines, helping them to craft their writing so that it is as clear and compelling as can be. I have a gimlet eye for detail and am adept at ensuring the author's own voice is preserved in their work. My feedback always includes generous amounts of both constructive advice and commendation.
At the start of a project, I will edit and proofread a sample of the author's writing to ensure that we both see eye to eye about the level of work that needs to be done. When editing, I use the track changes and comments functions in MS Word - this allows the author to keep tabs on the edits and changes I make and to work alongside me in the editing process.

University of Auckland
Prior to taking early retirement, I worked as a lecturer and researcher in the University of Auckland's School of Humanities, specialising in religious studies and gender studies. My role involved delivering lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervising Masters and doctoral students, and publishing research in my field of study. Since retiring from academia, I have continued to to write for both academic and non-academic audiences (including book chapters and podcast scripts) and to edit academic books and journal articles.
