Carey McIntyre – Editor

Nonfiction copyeditor and proofreader || Loves connecting people with ideas, inspiration, and knowledge || How-to books and vegan cookbooks

Overview

I’m a writer, editor, and proofreader with five years (in-house and freelance) in nonfiction trade publishing, seventeen years in marketing communications for a large public library system, and one year in journalism as a features writer and news assistant for a county newspaper. I hold a BA in English.

I have edited or proofread more than 20 nonfiction titles, most of them published by Storey Publishing in North Adams, Massachusetts. They include how-to books on gardening, cooking, crafts, well-being, nature, and animals.

I love helping authors empower readers to learn new things. I will collaborate with you thoughtfully to ensure your logic and language are flowing, explanations are comprehensive and concise, and the reader’s perspective is fully accounted for. I will fine-tune your manuscript to ensure accuracy, clarity and consistency, so your readers thrive at whatever you’re teaching them.

I have edited nine cookbooks and booklets. I love recipes: the way they connect us with our families, our communities, and the earth. You can count on me to take extreme care with your cookbook, because I know how even a small mistake can ruin not only a recipe, but also a new experience, a shared meal, or a legacy. I will collaborate with you to ensure your recipes are accessible to readers, so they get the results you want. Note I now take on only plant-based cookbooks, in keeping with my ethics.
