Amelia Bull

Amelia Bull – Editor

Proofreader and copy editor. I ❤️ YA fantasy, LGBTQ+, folklore, fairy tales and history!

Overview

I am a proofreader and copy editor with my head permanently stuck in the clouds, searching for dragons. I specialise in fantasy, folklore and history books, with 10 years' experience working with a variety of writers.

Whether your book is a deep dive into the history of locomotives, a swords-and-sorcery epic or a collection of dark fairy stories, my aim is to make your writing as clear, professional and polished as possible.

I am a member of the LGBTQ+ community and as such I love to see queer representation in the fiction I edit, and I can help you approach this representation with sensitivity.

With previous experience in technical writing, non-fiction and genre fiction, I can help you nail your grammar, spelling and syntax without sacrificing your personal style. My feedback is constructive and collaberative - I aim for you to come away with a book you can show off with pride!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Work experience

The History Press

Mar, 2025 — Present
Indie publisher The History Press regularly contracts me to copy edit or proofread for their authors. My specialty is folklore and fairy tales, but I have also worked on biography, locomotive history and the history of crime and punishment. Depending on the manuscript and contract, I use proofreading shorthand or tracked changes to make detailed corrections to grammar, spelling and syntax.

Mag Mell Publishing

Jan, 2016 — Sep, 2017 (over 1 year)
I was hired by author M.E. Vaughan to copy edit the second edition her YA fantasy novel, Sons of Thestian, after her previous publisher closed down. I worked closely with the author to correct typos and grammatical errors that were missed by her previous publisher, and to give her writing a new level of polish. She was pleased enough with my work that she later hired me to work on the sequel, Blood of the Delphi.

University of Winchester

Jan, 2021 — Jul, 2021 (7 months)
• Led lectures and seminars on the standards of professional writing. • Led critique groups with students, guiding them to edit and proofread both their own work and their fellow students'. • Marked and graded the students' papers, accounding for spelling, grammar and syntax as part of their grade.

Atlas Elektronik UK

Sep, 2017 — Mar, 2020 (over 2 years)
• Wrote and edited press releases, booklets, brochures and articles for AEUK. • Wrote and edited documentation for a large-scale bid in the submarines department. • Worked with engineers to present technical information in a clear and legible manner.
