Emma Adams

Emma Adams – Editor

I'm a copy-editor and proofreader with over 10 years' experience across fiction, non-fiction, academic, educational and reference titles.

Overview

I am a copy-editor and proofreader with 10 years' experience of working freelance with publishing houses and directly with authors. In-house, I have been an editor and copywriter at a charity and an editor at a legal publisher, liaising with authors and contributors and project managing titles through to production. I have also written for corporates and b2b companies, including annual reports and website copy.

Previously, I was an associate director at a leading London recruitment consultancy, specialising in publishing. Through sourcing talented candidates for my clients, I saw the other side of the fence, the fascinating nuts and bolts of taking commissioned ideas through to publication and over my six years in this role, learned a great deal about the publishing process.

As an editor, I collaborate closely with first-time authors, critiquing and developing their manuscripts, as well as with seasoned and successful self-published authors. For major UK publishing houses I have sensitively – yet, with authority – copy-edited and proofread celebrity biographies, self-help books and memoirs; updated annual business guides and reference books; even researched and added entries to dictionaries of computing, management and technology.

My fiction titles have ranged from contemporary fiction, women’s literature, crime and adventure to erotica and beach reads – even the odd Western! On the non-fiction side, my experience lies across management, careers, biography, memoir and popular science.

As a freelancer I am reliable, swift to reply in correspondence and consistently good at what I do. I take feedback well, value highly my existing professional relationships and always embrace the prospect of working with new clients.

For major UK publishing houses I have sensitively – yet, with authority – copy-edited and proofread a broad range of titles from celebrity biography to self-help, art, holiday reads and memoir. My fiction titles have ranged from erotica and beach reads to women’s literature, crime and adventure – even the odd Western and zombie novel.

Thank you, Emma for doing a great job! You were easy to work with, you were able to edit my documents without removing my own voice, and you even finished early.
