I am a UK-based book publicist, with over fifteen years’ experience of managing impactful campaigns for non-fiction authors.

Overview

I am an influential and creative book publicist, with a proven history of delivering innovative, eye-catching PR campaigns which raise the profile of books and authors across a wide range of non-fiction genres including biography, history, popular science, nature writing, music, self-help, health & wellness, food & drink, politics and current affairs. I have also worked with bestselling fiction authors including Jenny Colgan, Mark Billingham, Carole Matthews and C.L. Taylor.

I currently work with Hachette/Little, Brown managing all aspects of UK publicity for their imported US titles. My other freelance clients have included HarperCollins Avon, Chelsea Green Publishing, Hay House, Ingram Publisher Services and Fentum Press.

Before starting my own business, I worked in senior management roles for publishers including Little, Brown Book Group, the Perseus Books Group and Biteback Publishing.

I have excellent contacts across a broad range of media outlets. Whether working with established names or unknown authors, I pride myself on my author care skills, and my friendly, approachable style.

Services which I offer include:

· Designing and executing a bespoke publicity campaign to maximise the sales and impact of your book

· Writing effective press materials and pitching them to relevant media contacts

· Managing all aspects of your publicity campaign, working to secure reviews, features and interviews with national and regional print, online and broadcast media

· Arranging launch parties and other events, including bookshop talks and festival appearances

Away from publishing, I’m also a qualified yoga teacher, and especially keen to work with authors in the health and wellness space.

Work experience

Self-employed

Oct, 2016 — Present

I currently work with Hachette / Little Brown, managing all areas of publicity for their imported US titles, including devising publicity plans; writing press materials and pitching to media; securing reviews, features, interviews, extracts and other coverage across a wide range of print, online and broadcast outlets; and coordinating launch parties, festival appearances, bookshop talks, signings and other events.

Other clients have included HarperCollins Avon, Chelsea Green Publishing, Hay House and Ingram Publisher Services.

Biteback Publishing

May, 2015 — Oct, 2016 (over 1 year)

I led the publicity and marketing team at Biteback Publishing, the UK’s leading publisher of political and current affairs books, and its sister imprint The Robson Press, which published general non-fiction. Authors included Alastair Campbell, Sir Malcolm Rifkind, David Laws, Paul Gambaccini, Maureen Lipman and Ken Hom.

Little, Brown Book Group

Mar, 2014 — May, 2015 (about 1 year)

Working across the Sphere and Piatkus imprints, I looked after a wide range of commercial fiction and non-fiction authors including Mark Billingham, Jenny Colgan, Carole Matthews, Nicholas Sparks, reality TV star Vicky Pattison and nutritionist Patrick Holford.

The Perseus Books Group

Sep, 2004 — Mar, 2014 (over 9 years)

I managed all aspects of UK publicity for The Perseus Books Group, a leading American independent publisher (now a division of Hachette US) of non-fiction books across a variety of subject areas including politics, biography, popular science, history, business and economics, health and wellbeing, cookery, popular culture and humour. In this role, I worked with a wide range of authors, including high-profile names like Professor Brian Cox, George Soros and Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Projects

A Star is Born: Judy Garland and the Film That Got Away by Lorna Luft

Written by Lorna Luft, the acclaimed singer and daughter of Judy Garland, this illustrated book told the story of the making of Garland’s 1954 version of A Star is Born, and was published to coincide with the release of the 2018 remake starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

Coverage for this fascinating book included first interview with the Sunday Telegraph, and a ‘How It Feels…’ slot interview with the Sunday Times. Lorna visited London the year after publication, and I arranged with more than a dozen BBC local radio stations, and a high-profile signing event with Hatchards.

Becoming Eve: My Journey from Ultra-Orthodox Rabbi to Transgender Woman by Abby Stein

This powerful memoir tells the coming-of-age story of Abby Stein, born into an ultra-Orthodox family and destined to become a rabbinic leader, she instead became a woman.

It was a pleasure to work on Abby's inspiring memoir. I secured a major interview with the Times magazine, second interview with Jewish News, and reviews in the TLS and Jewish Chronicle amongst other publications. Abby was interviewed by BBC Radio's 'Outlook', and BBC Stories.

Fasting & Feasting: The Life of Visionary Food Writer Patience Gray by Adam Federman

In Fasting and Feasting, journalist and biographer Adam Federman reveals the remarkable — and until now untold — life story of pioneering food writer Patience Gray.

I had an amazing response from media, securing review coverage across a broad swathe of newspapers and magazines including the Guardian (Best Food Books of 2017), Times, Observer Food Monthly, Independent, Evening Standard, New Statesman, Spectator, Times Literary Supplement, Literary Review, the Oldie, and the Lady. I also arranged interviews with BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and The Food Programme.

Never Home Alone by Rob Dunn

Never Home Alone is an illuminating natural history of our homes, revealing some of the tiny tenants that share our living space.

It was great fun to work on this fascinating book. I secured blanket review coverage, including the Sunday Times, Daily Mail, Irish Times, Evening Standard , Literary Review, Geographical, and Resurgence. I also arranged a high-profile Guardian interview, which made the cover of the G2 supplement.
