Overview

I have been in production since the start of my career in publishing, andas part of my production-editing roleI've worked with freelance copy editors and proofreaders to help hone their skills. I'm excellent at managing projects and sticking to deadlines.
My specialty is editing and proofreading social science texts, but I have also enjoyed collaborating on developmental editing of memoirs. Having a connection with a manuscript is important to me, and I treat it the same as an author would—I want the finished product to be something we're both proud of.
People tell me I can spot a typo or incorrect punctuation from across the room!

Praise from coauthors Michael Tobias and Jane Morrison:
"Thank YOU for adroitly and expeditiously leaping into the fray with such an acute attention to detail. We are very very grateful and hope there will be an occasion to collaborate in the future."

Praise from author Matthew Lippman:
"You are an unparalleled professional. I am always confident that my books will be produced with exacting care and concern when you are supervising the process. Thank you for all you do for me. I look forward to hopefully having the opportunity to work with you once again."

Praise from author Cynthia Frisby:
"I am so excited to see and hold the book in my hands. Thank you for all your work. I look forward to working with you again…. Not sure if I can request a specific copy editor, but if I am able to, you can be rest assured, you are the first on my list."

Praise from author Amy Reynolds:
"this is hands-down the best-looking, best-designed and cleanest edition yet. Thanks so much, Tracy, to you and your team for all of your wonderful work. I really appreciate your collaboration and your efforts on our behalf!!"

Work experience

Senior Production Editor

SAGE Publishing / CQ Press
February, 2004 – Present (over 16 years)

I started out as a production editor and worked my way up to production manager for social science college and graduate-level textbooks. I enjoyed the production work too much to give it up for more management-focused responsibilities, so I stepped down in order to keep production as my focus. As a senior production editor, I manage manuscripts in the areas of sociology, psychology, political science, communications, criminology, and management — from copyediting to typesetting to proofreading to indexing, and then to press. I work closely with authors and freelancers, in addition to the in-house editorial, marketing, and design teams. I love what I do!

Copy Editor

Petersen Publishing
May, 1997 – May, 1998 (about 1 year)

Copyediting of car-related trade magazines

Production Editor / Production Manager

Forester Communications
August, 1994 – February, 2004 (over 9 years)

Over the course of 10 years, I did production, mockup, and editing of various trade journals and books and worked closely with the in-house graphic designers and the prepress team. I hired and supervised production and copy editors.
