Tim Byrne

Tim Byrne – Designer

I am a cover designer/illustrator with over 20 years experience having worked with Penguin, LittleBrown, Harper Collins, Faber and more.

Overview

I have worked in publishing for over 20 years, starting out at Harper Collins Publishers and then setting up my own successful cover design business.

I have worked with just about all the major publishers and recently my work can be seen in The Imperial War Museum London where my illustrations and design are part of the permanent display in the Churchill War Rooms.

Designing and illustrating book covers has been my passion for well over 20 years and it continues to be my dream job. I always read the manuscript and enjoy finding something within the text that best encapsulates the book and what it is about, and translating that into a successful, emotionally engaging cover. For the historical covers that I do I love researching the period of the book and knowing that whatever I depict is historically accurate.

Working with Tim was a delight from start to finish, we was incredibly responsive and interested in giving my book a cover that was reflective of the story and unique. I will definitely be working with him in the future.

From the very first message, Tim was outstanding. I could tell he understood what I was going for, that we were well-matched in subject matter and style. His communication was thorough, too, which was especially helpful because I'm not very experienced at this. Tim helped me understand things I d...

Tim was an absolute pro to work with!! He took his time with me, a new writer, and really went the extra mile to find that amazing place between “make the cover give a great impression of how the book feels to read” and “don’t give too much away”! …. Looking forward to working with him on book 2 ...

It was a pleasure to work with Tim on the cover of my historical novel "A Traitor's Son". He read the book, and responded to it as an individual project, with no sense of a boilerplate process. He gave me some great ideas, then worked to refine the chosen one. He came up with a concept that can a...

I cannot recommend Tim highly enough! From the very first conversation, it was clear that they had an incredible ability to understand not just the visual needs of my project but its essence. Designing the cover for Mill Dust & Dreaming Bread was no small task—it’s a book steeped in history, folk...
