Tee Tate

Tee Tate – Editor

Experienced in-house and freelance editor specializing in speculative, contemporary, and romance by both bestsellers and new writers.

Overview

With over a decade of experience as a freelance and in-house editor, I've honed the ability to spot a writer's strengths and transform a story from "interesting" to "can't-put-it-down." I've enjoyed working with everyone from up-and-coming writers to New York Times bestselling authors, RITA winners (Carolyn Crane), USA Today bestsellers (Chelle Bliss), and self-publishing sensations.

While speculative fiction is my first love, I’m here to help anyone at any stage of their publishing journey. Armed with a Master of Arts in English and a passion for great stories, I'm ready to refine your manuscript, no matter what you're in the market for - query letters, developmental edits, or anything in between. So, whether it's crafting the perfect manuscript or polishing that query letter, I’m here to help you take your work to the next level.

As a first-time indie author, working with Tee was an absolute game-changer. Her feedback was instrumental in not only getting my manuscript on the right track but also in equipping me with guidance I can carry forward into future projects. She didn’t just provide editing notes, but she offered i...

Tee is so thorough and kind in her feedback to writers. I felt like she valued my project as much as I did and gave excellent feedback for improving and making it stronger. It was a real joy to collaborate with her and I will definitely be hiring her again!

Tee was such a pleasure to work with. Right away I felt she connected with what I was trying to portray in my story. She put so much detail and thoughtfulness into her editing, and helped me see the ways my manuscript could be improved to be it's best possible version. Tee went above and beyond t...

I want to share my nightmare with Reedsy. An editor named Tee Tate took my 1700 and has not completed the project. She has deleted her account so my emails are returned. She used an excuse that she was sick but now has vanished. Reedsy has zero customer swrvice. BEWARE of this company!!

What are the most important questions an author should ask beta readers when gathering helpful feedback on their manuscript?

You're not looking for them to rewrite your book or give you line edits. What you do want is a sense of their reading experience. What landed, what didn’t, and where they felt pulled in or pushed out. So keep your questions focused on how it felt to read the story, not what they’d do differently....

What advice would you give your younger self when you just started out as an editor?

First: hydrate. Second: editing is not about fixing, it’s about finding. When I started out, I thought my job was to correct things. To polish sentences. To make stories “better.” But that mindset only works if you assume the editor knows more than the writer. And while yes, the editor brings ex...
