Kevin Shamel

Kevin Shamel – Editor

Fiction writer and editor with over fifteen years in the industry. I love weird writing and anything pushing boundaries.

Overview

Fiction writer and editor. I'm both a writer and reader of weird fiction, from speculative to bizarro (which encompasses every genre--it's just weird). With over fifteen years experience as a professional author and editor, I have a love for helping others achieve their dreams of publishing the stories they create. I am a fan of independent voices and self-publishers. I'm well-versed in interior and exterior design.

I've worked with new writers to develop and publish their first books as well as helped others continue their success as authors. I have an eye for detail, and the ability to offer edits in your voice. I believe the best editing comes with skill and empathy. I'm here to make you shine.

“Kevin’s strength as an editor is in meeting you where you’re at, and then helping you elevate from that point. He is able to easily see your vision, and help you master and execute that in the most effective way possible, while remaining true to your voice as an author. “ --Constance Ann Fitzgerald (author of TRASHLAND A GO-GO and GLUE)

Every once in a while, you luck out and pull a name from the hat—hiring someone who truly does a thorough job. Then, if you're fortunate, you find not just a detail-oriented professional who cares about your work, but also a kindred spirit who is as invested in your book as you are. I had a sense that this might happen when I saw that Kevin was on the lookout for off beat projects. I couldn’t...

Working on your books was a pleasure. You have a unique voice, and your books are smart and hilarious. I wish you all the best with them and I can't wait to see them in print!

Kevin was responsive, often responding just minutes after I’d sent him a few thousand word message. And his responses were interesting, engaging, professional, and most importantly they were tremendously helpful. I hope to work with him again. P.S. The following is unrelated to Kevin. Reedsy pestered me to assess my collaboration in order for the collaboration to be completed, which is fair...

Kevin's work was all that I asked for, needed (badly) and then some. His thoroughness was over the top, in a good way. Kevin's comments were a master class in writing, in my opinion. Some of the things he pointed out left me in amazement that whatever they taught me in 7th grade English clearly hadn't stuck. They say it's never too late to learn, so 50 years after 7th grade I think Kevin's tuto...

Kevin was the right choice. We're still working on my project, but I'm grateful that Kevin allows me move at my pace. He's been super responsive and he's always encouraging. I know I can count on him giving me the feedback I need when I need it. I would recommend him for the next person's project if they make a good match.
