Lucia Ferrara – Editor

Freelance editor with over 20 years of experience in print and digital publishing. Worked at Scholastic Canada and Pearson Education.

Overview

Editor of Scales of Ash & Smoke, 2021 BIBA Fantasy Winner.

Editor of Scales of Ice & Shadow, 2022 BIBA Dragon Fantasy Winner.

My publishing experiences include editing fiction and non-fiction texts, educational publishing, production editing, and editorial project management. I currently work with a wide range of genres and reading levels, such as Young Adult/YA, Middle Grade, Adult Fiction, and Children’s books.

I’ve been on both sides of the freelancing fence: as a production editor it was part of my job to hire editors and review their work; now I’m working as a freelance editor myself. This experience has given me a thorough understanding of the process, including the importance of clear communication between authors and editors.

I look forward to meeting you!

Lucia did an amazing developmental edit of my YA mystery detective novel! She added tons of insight that totally went over my head in this first draft and I never ever would have seen, and my next draft will be amazing because of it! Her comments are attuned to the genre and audience. She even helped me think about some of the marketing from a high level as I go through my drafts. Amazing! O...

I had the pleasure of working with Lucia! This was a unique situation, where I hadn’t written the book, but I needed to have it edited while still respecting the author’s voice. Lucia helped me on this journey. She offered her knowledgeable advice on many occasions. She was always quick to respond and often times finished editing ahead of schedule. She was extremely meticulous in her editing at...

Lucia was incredible to work with as a copy editor, especially as a first time author. She was able to help fix many of my book's technical problems all while providing excellent communication and honest encouragement. Would definitely like to work with her again in the future.

Lucia did an amazing proofread for me. Exactly what I needed and was looking for - she understood my offbeat genre and style and all her comments were spot on while accommodating the idiosyncrasies of the manuscript itself. She caught lots of typos and also consistency issues as well and raised questions for me to think about as well. I can trust I have a nice clean manuscript now for publishi...
