I'm Sun Cooper, a writer, editor, and literary consultant who migrates between my home state, Oklahoma, and my adopted home, California. I've lived in a horse barn, a sea captain's house, and spent summers in Mexico, England, and Hungary. I've been in Baja the past months on a writer's residency, following the whale migration and working on a collaborative poetry and music project highlighting international women's literature and courage.
Under my belt, I've tucked a B.A. in English Lit, Harvard studies in Modern Masterpieces of World Literature, and over 18 years experience navigating the terrains of the publishing world. I am a member of the Certified Professional Writers and Editors, The Shakespeare Fellowship, a previous award-winning editor for the Nashville Gazette, a regular contributor to literary and travel magazines, an internationally published poet, consulting editor with My Two Cents Editing, editor of digital Waves, and Blackbird Fellow and consultant with A Room of Her Own Foundation.
My individual and collaborative publications have been featured in People magazine; National Geographic; Rolling Stone; Nashville's Gazette; London's Severine; NonDoc news online; ongoing hybrid publishing expert contributor for Southern Writers; and ongoing contributor for American Cowboy, highlighting indigenous history, conservation, and the role women play in the American West and modern culture. A featured work on the Cherokee Beloved-Women is slated for publication soon in A Room of Her Own's literary anthology, WAVES: A Confluence of Voices.
After a broad, deeply-plumbed experience collaborating with authors, agencies, and presses, I became aware of the need for more female perspectives and support in modern literature and publications. I offer manuscript critique, development, and sensitivity reading through M2CE. I specialize in literary consultation for women's literature, historical genres, travel and memoir, fiction, poetry, indigenous history and modern culture, sustainability and conservation, and soulful projects.
I offer publishing consultation and project management for authors pursuing the traditional, indie or hybrid path.
In a similar vein of The Artist's Way and Writing Down the Bones, I've developed a unique Vision Mapping self-paced email course curated from my twelve years of experience working with authors, agents, writer organizations, presses and publishers; it is an uncommon method designed to help writers and visionaries thoughtfully and smartly ask and answer the three most important questions in your writing, platform, and publishing goals and provide resourceful milestone mapping for your unique, particular vision.
My past experience working with agents and publishers has funneled through my work with authors and relationships I've built through such organizations such as A Room of Her Own Foundation and the San Diego Writers and Publishers Association. As a former newspaper editor, as well as a contributor to magazines and a publishing consultant working in partnership with my authors, I am familiar with both the nature and the process of publishing for readers. The list of publishers I've communicated with and worked with are broad and varied, including Seventy Seven Press, Red Hen, Familius Publishing, Tate Publishing, Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing and others.
I also provide intuitive, editorial review and writing services for manuscripts, queries, endorsement and review campaigns, book proposals, book description and jacket copy, cover letters, and author biographies.
In addition, I offer fresh, expertly curated agent and contest lists with sample cover letters.
