Steve O'Shea

Steve O'Shea – Editor

Mature, knowledgeable, passionate about communicating nonsense-free science, and an absolute stickler for accuracy and continuity.

Overview

I have a scientific background (PhD in marine sciences), am an active researcher (at the time of writing my h-index is 18 and i10-index is 23), and have vast experience with copy-editing, proof-reading, or substantive document editing of theses, peer-reviewed scientific publications for an academic audience in English (mainly in marine sciences, aquaculture, ecology, fisheries, avian biology, but also in health and medicine), and, more recently, books. I am open to editing documents in any discipline and format. I am easy to work with, very hard working, and never miss a deadline.

How does it work? After we introduce ourselves here (email or audiovisual) to discuss your needs, expectations, and deadlines, you then send a manuscript (complete file or representative sample text) to me in MS Word. You may already have uploaded a sample text. I review the document and assess the level of editing required, then prepare a no-obligation quote for you. Once you accept my quote, I then return an edited and correctly formatted document to you within hours to 3 days (depending on the editing level required and its length) for a conventional manuscript (< 10,000 words), or 1 to 2 weeks for something longer (< 65,000 words). Corrections are made using the MS Word 'Track Changes' option. We then go 'back and forth' in series of clarification edits (free) until you are happy with the final edited document, at which point in time we conclude our business, with smiles.
