Danielle Magnuson

Danielle Magnuson – Editor

A meticulous editor with 20+ years editing nonfiction, with a particular focus on memoir, science, and nature.

Overview

I have received some lovely praise from my clients, such as: “You are an outstanding professional. I am so glad I picked you as my editor!”; “I think the book is going to be amazing LARGELY in part to your efforts, patience, and skills”; “I SO appreciate the length and depth of your comments”; and “Oh my gosh. This is gorgeous and exactly what I was looking for . . . You are so good at this.”

My editorial skills include both developmental editing (offering big picture advice on what to expand, cut, and rearrange) and copy editing (making the sentence-level writing correct and consistent).

Many of the books I’ve edited have a “natural world” bent to them, whether it be the memoir of a Mississippi river rat, a guidebook to environmental preservation, an encyclopedic volume on raptors, an accessible dive into super volcanoes, the history of a deadly Lake Superior storm, or a picture book about the fascinating science behind snowflakes.

I have an MFA in Creative Writing, and I’ve taught writing at the college level. My goal in any editorial project is always to help the writer's voice and content shine through as powerfully as possible.

Danielle has been more than excellent editor. Her patience and detail made her a collaborator to take a rough manuscript and guide it into a finished work. Being able to see the larger picture can be difficult for an author. An excellent editor like Danielle is indispensable. She is a joy to work...

This is my first time going through an editorial process. Danielle has been extremely supportive in all respects. Most importantly, her comments are precisely what I was hopping for; not to agree, but to suggest ways of clarifying in a constructive way keeping the sense intact.
