Stephanie Eagleson – Editor

Trauma-informed editor at Lake Drive Books specializing in religious deconstruction memoir, poetry, self-help, & noblebright fantasy romance

Overview

***I do not accept manuscripts that have in any way used AI.***

I help spiritual, socially progressive authors develop and refine their poetry chapbooks, memoirs, and self-help volumes. I also work with novelists to bring their worlds, plots, and characters to life with clarity and finesse. As an empath with certification in abuse victim advocacy, I am known for my collaborative, caretaker approach to editing and book coaching. Some of my clients have included Trey Ferguson, Ngina Otiende, Marla Taviano, Sylvia Mercedes, and Jill Bearup.

I am well-versed in Chicago and MLA style, the latter of which I taught in a college-prep writing course for a number of years. Thanks to my prior career as an English teacher, I am just as comfortable addressing high-level developmental issues as I am the finest points of grammar, and I deliver all of my feedback with kindness and respect. Past clients have commended me for my hyper-vigilant attention to detail, narrative insight, proactive and reliable communication, sensitivity, and timeliness.

I am particularly interested in walking alongside abuse survivors to help them reclaim their voices and speak their truth. If this is you, please mention it in your query and ask about my survivor discount. I also provide authenticity reading with respect to autism/ADHD/neurodivergence and abuse/trauma.

Some of my poems have been published by Calla Press and Beyond Words Literary Magazine, and my personal essay of overcoming childhood abuse was published first at The Salt Collective, then with The Vashti Initiative. Persephone's Daughters also published one of my short stories, where it was nominated for Best of the Net.

"Stephanie is a super-careful editor; you can be sure she will deliver feedback that is thorough and comprehensive. Her understanding of things like sentence structure and style ensures your manuscript turns out readable and smooth. But her skills don't end there, especially considering the passion and interest she brings to her work." ~David M.

"Stephanie copyedited my debut book and brought an excellent mix of writing acumen, spiritual literacy, and genuine enthusiasm to the process. Her close attention to detail not only sharpened the manuscript's prose and verse on a sentence level, but also identified opportunities where I could strengthen my thesis or heighten my sensitivity. I'm grateful for her insights and her support!" ~Julia R.

Work experience

Self

Aug, 2020 — Present
I do everything from proofreading, copyediting, and line editing to developmental editing and book coaching for both fiction and non-fiction, bringing heartfelt support and scrupulous grammar to indie authors and small presses from many walks of life.

Lake Drive Books

Feb, 2025 — Present
I perform macro (developmental and line) edits on incoming manuscripts as well as a round of copyediting/preliminary proofreading, working alongside authors to implement changes. I facilitate communication between authors and the rest of the publishing team, supporting the author's vision and bringing their book into alignment with top publishing standards to best prepare it for launch in the current market.

The Potter's School

Mar, 2010 — May, 2014 (about 4 years)
I collaborated with an elite team of educators to develop and deliver top-quality English language and literature courses for grades 5-12. I also wrote and taught a complete curriculum for an accelerated college-prep writing course that perfected students’ grammar, research skills, and mastery of MLA style.
