Simona Manca

Simona Manca – Translator

An avid reader, I am a fiction and non-fiction translator with 15 years experience. I can help your book to travel new destinations!

I have been an interpreter and translator for over 14 years, I am a published translator and my last work in translation will be published in autumn 2021. I am meticulous when it comes to technical translations, but I get creative (without missing the point) when I deal with literary translations. I have translated chick-lit books, children literature, architecture and academic essays.
A Sardinian by birth I have lived in Milan during my University years and moved to Scotland (Glasgow then Edinburgh) in 2004.
My love for translation started when I found myself working as interpreter for an Italian theatre director running a workshop in Glasgow; I was still an undergrad student (Modern Languages) at the time, but I found that being able to help connecting two different cultures was what I wanted to specialise in.

Since then I have worked as translator and interpreter and besides having translated some books, I have worked as video games localisation tester, and I have experience in events management.

I love reading, I spend as much time as I can reading, and when I read in a language other than Italian, i can't help thinking of how I would translate a specific passage, or a sentence, or a joke! I enjoy working with authors (where possible) and in my experience I found that collaborative translations (where access to the author or to texts he referred to is a possibility) are extremely beneficial for both the author and the translator.

Besides English and Italian I work with Spanish and Sardinian, and I am studying Portuguese to reach a working language level.

It was a pleasure to work with Simona. She was very responsive and provided a very fluid, easily read, interpretative test translation. I shared with native speakers who have some ideas on areas to explore, but perfect for the initial exercise. An excellent professional.
