Overview
I’ve been working as an editor since 2016. In university, I ran essay clinics as a member of the English Students’ Association and later took up the position of Arts and Culture Editor for my university’s student-run newspaper, The Brock Press. From there, I completed my degree in English Language and Literature, with a minor in Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse Studies, and moved to Toronto to complete Ryerson’s publishing program. I interned first with McClelland & Stewart of Penguin Random House Canada in their editorial department and then with The Rights Factory, a Toronto-based literary agency, as an editorial assistant. In addition, I began to independently contract projects at various levels of editing, from manuscript evaluation to final proofread.
After interning for The Rights Factory, I was hired as an Editorial Assistant at Oxford University Press Canada, where I explored the academic side of Canadian publishing. After a year of working with OUP Canada, I was hired as an Editorial Coordinator with ECW Press, a Toronto-based indie publisher, where I now work as Managing and Development Editor. I’ve continued to grow my freelance editorial business and have become an Editor at Large for Blood and Bourbon, a small Canadian literary magazine that publishes seasonally.
At the heart of my experience in the publishing industry is a deep love for working with authors on their manuscripts. I offer a collaborative, friendly editorial companion for whatever stage you find yourself at with your manuscript, whether it be an early outline or a set of laid out pages needing a final proofread before print. I've been working in the publishing industry for five years now and can offer you real insight into industry standards and, above all, thoughtful feedback to get your work to where you want it to be. Please reach out if you are in need of manuscript evaluation, structural editing, copy editing, or proofreading. I would love to work with you!
