Sarah Kasman

Sarah Kasman – Editor

I am an editor and proofreader specializing in Children's books, particularly MG and YA fiction.

Overview

I'm a seasoned editor and proofreader. I have over five years of professional experience in freelance and publishing house capacities, previously at Sourcebooks. I've worked with NYT bestselling authors such as Marieke Nijkamp and Claire Legrand, and have edited across all genres of children's literature.

I love working with stories and am always inspired by the creativity of authors. Their ideas and writing are the springboard I work off of, and my editing process is completely guided by the author's own goals for their work. I am very careful to preserve writers' voices while also making it as strong as it can be. I ask a lot of questions and get authors to think more deeply about their characters and plot lines so that they can build the story in the way that feels the most natural to them, while also giving a lot of guidance and suggestions along the way. I am a detailed copy editor and will get down to the nitty gritty!

"These books never would have gotten this far if you hadn't decided to take on an obviously raw writer and told him exactly where he went wrong, and what direction he needed to go. Thank you for everything!" -Mark S., science fiction writer

"It can be a challenge for independent authors to find a great editor, but with Sarah, you have just that. The turnaround time was extremely fast and the work fantastic! She caught so many small errors that had been missed by others. I highly recommend Sarah and will be using her for all my future projects!" -Cassandra Larsen, author of The Witches Circle series

This was my first time using Reedsy, and also my first time working with a professional editor. Sarah did both a developmental edit and a copy edit of my middle grade fantasy novel, and I was really happy with the entire experience. She was so easy to work with, and her feedback has really helped me to take this story to the next level. I will absolutely be knocking on her door again when the n...

This was my first time using Reedsy and having someone edit my manuscript. Sarah did an amazing job providing feedback and proofreading my work. I was thankful that she was also available to answer some questions I had about the query submission process. In fact, I loved her feedback of my query letter so much that I had her edit the first three chapters of my manuscript. I would definitely rea...
