Overview
I'm a fiction writer and editor based in Los Angeles.
I'm the author of science-fiction, adventure, and coming-of-age stories. I strongly believe that storytelling is how we make sense of our lives, it's a powerful tool for how we process the challenges in our lives and the world. That's how I've always felt since I fell in love as a kid, watching monster and adventure movies, and now, as an adult, trying to navigate my own feelings and imagination through the stories I write.
Much of my editorial focus has been on genres I also love to read: sci-fi, adventures, coming-of-age stories, and memoirs, all genres in which characters (real or fictional) achieve goals, find maturity, clarity or fulfillment by overcoming challenges posed by various challenges, dangers, and obstacles.
My editorial mantra is that the client calls the shots, and I consider it a primary responsibility to make sure the client feels their voice is preserved, that their writing goals are met, and that they enter the world of publication feeling proud and excited about their accomplishment.
PRAISE FOR JAY
"I thought the hard part was over when I completed my first novel, 'An Undisclosed Warrior.' Not so! The real work starts with editing, then editing some more, and then collaborating with a professional editor. I chose Jay; it was the best decision I could have made.
Jay corrected numerous grammatical mistakes and eliminated unnecessary words and paragraphs that slowed the narrative. In addition, he improved and clarified the prose for a natural flow and, by extension, enriched the overall style of my work.
I can’t praise or thank Jay enough, and I will most definitely work with him again on my next adventure in literature. "
— Rene Bibeau, author of "An Undisclosed Warrior"
“Jay is an incredibly thoughtful and generous editor who brings a wealth of story and editing experience to any project that comes across his desk. His sense of character, plot, tone and style is impeccable. On top of all that, Jay’s charm and sense of humor make the manuscript-revising process a blast."
— Paul Morrissey, Eisner Award-winning writer and editor
MY OWN WRITING
In 2007, I received my MFA in fiction from the University of Southern California, graduating with my first novel, "The Leaving of Things," as my thesis. "The Leaving of Things" was published in 2014 by Lake Union Publishing and went on to win reader acclaim, literary awards, and to become an Amazon bestseller.
In the years since, I've written and published the sci-fi adventures , "Edge of Light" and "Transcendent," and I'm currently at work on a sequel to "Edge of Light."
My goal is to keep pursuing my love of storytelling and the writing craft as I collaborate with my fellow authors in bringing their own creations in front of readers with a sense of pride and fulfillment.
