Ruxandra Câmpeanu

Ruxandra Câmpeanu – Editor

Very perceptive fiction editor with a ton of patience and an uncanny eye for detail. I have a lot of experience with children’s literature.

Overview

I am a fiction editor as well as an occasional literary translator.

I’ve been working as an editor for over eleven years. I started at one of the most important publishing houses in Romania, where I gained a lot of experience in editing translations of classic and contemporary novels. I worked on high-stakes books, editing Romanian versions of Winesburg, Ohio (Sherwood Anderson), Harvest (Jim Crace), The Eye of the Storm (Patrick White) and the very first Romanian translation of Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man. Apart from editing, I also translated a few books, the most important of which were Kim (Rudyard Kipling) and Ethan Frome (Edith Wharton). Don’t worry though, I won’t turn your story into a spin-off from some turn-of-the-century social novel! What I mean to say is that there’s nothing like close acquaintance with the classics to help an editor really understand the inner workings of a literary text.

I then moved to a younger publishing house, where I helped build a brand-new children’s and YA fiction imprint. I’ve been editing children’s books, middle grade and teen fiction for over eight years now. I work on translations from English (French, German) into Romanian, but I also manage a collection of bilingual (Romanian and English) books for children of all ages, where I work directly with authors and provide editing through all the stages of a manuscript, from submission to publishing. The books that come out in this collection are the publishing house’s best-selling titles.

I am very involved as an editor, I offer extensive and detailed feedback and spare no effort to see a manuscript reach its full potential. I am well-versed in a wide variety of styles and I can easily adjust to an author’s literary sensibility. I am also very familiar with the tastes and preferences of young readers and can provide valuable guidance in this respect.

I am so grateful for Ruxandra’s help. She provided clear, detailed, useful feedback in the developmental edits she did for my story. Not only were her suggestions helpful, she even provided examples of how I could make these changes to improve my story. I will definitely work with her again.
