I have over 15 years' experience in Primary Literacy publishing, both as a commissioner and development editor. During that time I have worked on fiction and non-fiction reading books for children aged 4-14, as well as accompanying teaching support. I have had the opportunity to visit a large number of schools over the years so have plenty of first-hand experience about what children want to read as well as what they can struggle with.

I'm always keen to be involved early on to have the opportunity to assess the appeal and suitability of the concept - if there's a good reason an idea won't work, it's better to know early! Once at manuscript stage, I love getting into the detail of the story, for example: Would this character really behave like that? Is this sentence too tricky for a child of that age? Is the chronology confusing here? Expect plenty of suggestions but there are no expectations that an authors should follow my recommendations - I believe editing should be a collaborative process and a positive experience.
