Pippa White

Pippa White – Editor

Editorial Director and Developmental Editor. I specialize in cookbooks, health & wellness, self-help, and memoirs/narrative nonfiction.

Overview

As an editor with 15 years of experience at top publishing houses, I've spent my career evaluating, acquiring, and editing manuscripts for publication, so I have a keen sense of what publishers and readers are looking for. In addition to working with authors directly, I've held management positions at these houses for the last several years, which means teaching and training other editors in this work. I'm deeply passionate about collaborating with writers to create great books!

I've happily worked on a wide range of nonfiction, but I specialize in:

· cookbooks and cocktail books

· health and wellness

· diet

· self-help

· relationships

· memoirs/narrative nonfiction

I'm also proud to say that I've worked with heavy-hitters like Gwyneth Paltrow, Mario Batali, Daniel Boulud, and Nev Schulman to create bestselling books.

When it comes to my clients, I'm committed to quality and empathy. I have a thorough understanding of how each book is intended for a unique audience, so I like to begin my work with clients by discussing (and sometimes helping them discover) who we are trying to reach with each individual project. My goal is help clients craft the book of their dreams -- and to make sure they will reach their intended reader.

Work experience

Cameron Books / Abrams

Jan, 2022 — Present

As the Editorial Director at Cameron Books, my job is to acquire and edit books to expand our publishing program, as well as manage our editorial team of 11 people. I acquire ~20-30 book projects per year, and pick ~3 books per season to edit personally, while assigning the other books to my team members.

Callisto Media

Oct, 2017 — Feb, 2022 (over 4 years)

At Callisto, I began as an Editor and worked my way up. I generated book ideas, then acquired and edited 24 books per quarter (~96 books per year), and shepherded them through all stages of production from concept and title creation, to making trim size, page count, and design decisions, to editing and overseeing the stages of passes and proofs.

After two years, I was promoted to Executive Editor and was asked to lead one of our editorial teams, where I managed 8 editors as they ushered our books through the editorial, design, and production process.

While serving in that role, I was tapped by the COO to be in charge of Quality Control, which entailed reviewing and approving (or not) every book the company produced before it was sent to the printer to ensure it delivered on its promise to the reader, both in terms of content and accuracy.

Chronicle Books

Oct, 2015 — Oct, 2017 (about 2 years)

As an Associate Editor at Chronicle Books, I acquired and edited ~10-15 books per year in the categories of narrative nonfiction, pop-culture, humor, travel, trivia, sports, as well as celebrity and brand-licensed books. I project-managed each book, including shepherding all projects through various stages of production. I also wrote the jacket copy, catalog copy, and sales copy for each project. As at Hachette, I worked closely with my authors to edit manuscripts and make design/title/cover decisions.

PW Editorial Services

Oct, 2014 — Sep, 2015 (11 months)

I edited fiction and nonfiction manuscripts for authors (line, structural, and developmental editing) and consulted on proposals being submitted to agents and publishing houses.

Hachette Book Group

Mar, 2009 — Oct, 2014 (over 5 years)

As an Editorial Assistant and then Assistant Editor at Hachette, I acquired and edited ~5 titles annually, evaluated manuscript submissions from literary agents and pitched editorial projects to executive stakeholders including the Publisher and Editorial Board. I worked closely with my authors to edit manuscripts and make design/title/cover decisions.
