Paula Weiman

Paula Weiman – Editor

Specializing in children's books and speculative fiction, my goal is to help authors refine their projects so they find the right audience.

Overview

My role as an editor is to help writers execute the strongest version of the story they want to share. In my experience with scouting, agenting, and editorial, I've learned to see beyond the draft on the page to envision the potential changes that will truly captivate readers. I know what works in both the US and international markets and I can help you discover the place within those markets where your book will shine.

When I work on developmental edits I focus on development of voice, pacing, character, and adherence to genre expectations; these are the things that are going to attract an editor's attention if you're looking to be traditionally published. For line edits, I bring a poet's ear to phrasing. I have a reputation as a sharp copyeditor and proofreader who can work with external style books and create an individual style guide for your particular project. I've read thousands of pitches, which has prepared me to help your query letter stand out from the slush pile.
