Pam Gruber – Editor

Literary agent and former editorial director with 10+ years of expertise. Dedicated to helping storytellers of all kinds find their voice.

Overview

I am a literary agent and former editorial director with expertise in all categories of children’s publishing, from picture books through YA crossover, including graphic novels. I am passionate about the creative process, and dedicated to helping storytellers of all kinds find their voice.

I began my career in publishing at Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, a division of Hachette Book Group, where I worked for over a decade with acclaimed and bestselling authors and illustrators. From there, I went on to serve as Editorial Director at the children’s media startup Rebel Girls, helping to translate the company mission into books, podcasts, and digital mediums. I became a literary agent in 2020 when I realized my favorite part of the publishing business was working directly with creators, helping them to shape not only their stories, but also their careers.

I am excited to continue editing in my spare time, via Reedsy. I bring an inscrutable eye for detail to every text I get my hands on, and I will help ensure your work is gripping from the first line. My knowledge of both traditional and nontraditional publishing gives me insight into how editors and agents think, and what your reader is looking for. As an editor, I offer comments and suggestions based on my extensive experience with independent, mid-size, Big 5 publishers. These are not obligatory changes! It is your story to tell, and I only hope my guidance will help it become one that you’re truly proud of.

I knew I wanted to work in publishing from a young age and I’m thrilled with the career I have built on being an unabashed book lover. On those rare occasions when I don’t have my nose buried in the pages of a great story, I can be found playing DnD, daydreaming about future world travels, experimenting with baked goods, or exploring the nooks and crannies of Brooklyn.

[Please note that to avoid conflicts of interest as an agent, I cannot represent those projects I have edited via Reedsy.]
