Orli Zuravicky – Editor

Professional Children's Book and Content Editor. 20+ years of experience, including Scholastic and Callisto Media. Expertise in ages 0-12.

Overview

I am a publishing professional with 20+ years of experience acquiring, editing, writing, and directing fiction and nonfiction content for top industry publishers. I specialize in developmental and structural editing for children ages 0-18, and have worked on multiple formats including board books, novelty books, picture books, readers, chapter books, workbooks, and activity books to name a few. I have acquired and edited books with New York Times bestselling authors and artists, developed multiple bestselling series, and edited My First Learn-to-Write Workbook, one of the top selling children's titles on Bookscan and Amazon in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

My role is to help guide you toward your goal, whatever it is and however you choose to measure it. I love working with authors and content creators and helping them bring their vision to life. I will always give you honest and constructive feedback. I am also a published author, so I have experienced working with editors as a writer. I strive for greatness in everything I do, and you will receive that same fervor when we work together. I have a deep love of children's books, and am knowledgeable about early education and childhood development.

I offer a number of different services, including Content Consultation, Outline Review, Manuscript Critique, Character & Voice Workshop, Developmental Editing, and Book Coaching. Once I have reviewed your submitted content, I will send you a message with my initial thoughts on what service would be best for your needs.

Whatever project you are working on, I’m confident I can help bring it to the next level!

Work experience

Callisto Media

Jan, 2019 — Oct, 2022 (over 3 years)

Managed a team of 4-8 editors, each responsible for the production of 10-15 nonfiction children's titles in multiple formats for ages 0-18, and oversaw the development and quality of all titles.

Oversaw the day-to-day development, quality, and production of the Kids & Teens titles on my team’s list. Ensured projects stayed on time and within budget.

Scholastic, Trade Division

Jul, 2011 — Dec, 2018 (over 7 years)

Acquired, edited, and oversaw 15-20 fiction and nonfiction titles for ages 0-12 per calendar year, managing production from acquisitions to publication.

Worked closely with authors and illustrators, including New York Times bestsellers such as Ame Dyckman, Scott Magoon, and Nick Seluk.

Callisto Media

Aug, 2022 — Oct, 2022 (2 months)

Worked to define and establish overall quality standards for Callisto’s Kids & Teens products –including standards for target audience, UX, author biases, and more -- by researching and analyzing product and consumer data and needs.

Reviewed book covers, interiors, and proofs to ensure quality, raising red flags for products that did not uphold standards and customer requirements.

Worked with Revenue teams on product performance at e-tail to improve the book product and webpage presentation to the consumer.

Callisto Media

Jan, 2019 — Jul, 2020 (over 1 year)

Developed, outlined, and edited 15-20 children’s nonfiction titles per year for ages 0-18, managing production from conception to publication, including My First Learn-to-Write Workbook (a #1 bestseller on Amazon and Bookscan), The Story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (now a 43-book series), and an Amazon bestseller at Thanksgiving, I Am Thankful.

Simon & Schuster

Apr, 2007 — Jul, 2011 (about 4 years)

Managed 25 licensed and brand-based titles per year for ages K-6 including middle-grade novels, chapter books, storybooks, board/novelty books, and more.

Orli provided constructive feedback, not always what we wanted to hear, but what we needed to hear. We would happily work with her on future projects!

It was great working with Orli! She provided honest and constructive feedback that help drive my story forward. This is my first time writing a children's book and she really helped streamline my thought process and writing process. She was very responsive and I greatly appreciated her expertise.

Orli is so skilled at bringing out the heart of your story. I felt stuck in rhyme and she helped capture the essence of my story early on and kept pushing. My manuscript is in a great place with the message I always wanted. She will push you, hear you, and help you. That's just what you want.
