Overview

An editor and proofreader with a number of years’ experience in the industry, I am enthusiastic about books and reading. I've enjoyed helping established and first-time authors to finesse their work.

As a freelance copy-editor, I’ve worked with André Deutsch, the Do Book Company, Earthscan, Lund Humphries, Phaidon Press, Time Out Guides and Wiley. I started my career at Penguin Books and the independent publisher I.B. Tauris. Later, I held a role as a sub-editor and proofreader on the RA Magazine for Friends of the Royal Academy of Arts, and freelanced as a production editor for The Architectural Review. Books on which I’ve worked as a copy-editor appear in my portfolio (please see the books on screen).

While I enjoy having a varied portfolio, I’ve specialised in working on non-fiction books in the subject areas of arts and culture, business, cities, the environment, general history and travel. As a published author of feature articles, I can offer experience of the editorial process from the writer’s point of view. I've written a Master's dissertation on twentieth-century literature. I’m able to use BSI proof-correction marks with a keen eye for detail. I can provide mark-up on screen with Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Word track changes.
