Nia Howard

Nia Howard – Editor

10+ years helping writers explore every dimension of their stories via editorial assessment. Literary fiction, genre & film. UTA-repped.

Overview

I’m a beta and sensitivity/diversity reader with 10+ years of experience, including work with Hachette and HarperCollins (Less is Lost, Return to the Shack, and more).

As a UTA-represented screenwriter, I bring a storyteller’s eye to every project, helping you clarify your vision, strengthen character and structure, and uncover the depth and complexity already in your story. I get really excited about exploring the dimensions of story and writing as a practice, because I believe every part of the creative process serves the greater vision.

When working with me, you’ll receive honest, compassionate, and holistic feedback—equal attention is given to both what works and what could be clearer, with explanations of how each suggestion strengthens your intention.

My assessments are typically delivered via a thorough questionnaire, providing interconnected notes that show how each story element interacts to support the overall coherence of your manuscript.

I love diving into genre, world-building, and stories that challenge and surprise (and maybe even get a little “woo”). Regardless of where your story falls, my goal is to leave you not just with actionable notes, but also with a fresh perspective on your story and craft.

If you’re looking for thoughtful guidance, encouragement, and a collaborator genuinely invested in bringing your story to life, you’re in the right place. I’m glad we’ve crossed paths.
