J Dupree

J Dupree – Editor

Creative (some say quirky), euphemistically detail-oriented (read: minutia-obsessed) editor ready to dive in and spin your words into gold.

Overview

I am an award-winning, deadline-driven editor with too many years of experience to count. I love research and unearthing facts and other arcane matter. I also love dogs, which, if it won't endear me to you I hope will remain inconsequential. I will not sign off on a project until I have vetted it to exhaustion. I am a true collaborator and reap tremendous satisfaction from helping others achieve their goals. Colleagues have remarked that I am fair, calm and respectful, which are values I strive to uphold as I believe they are crucial to the health and well-being of employee and company.

My day job is directing communications at a renowned independent school. Prior to this position, I served as publications director at another prestigious independent school and won several national awards in my role as editor of the alumni magazine. However, missing the energy and creativity of book publishing, where I began my career oh-so-many years ago, led me to Reedsy as a way to return to my roots so that, yes, I can have it all. My portfolio from my book-editing days includes best-selling illustrated children's books, several of which I acquired, updated and brought back to print, and critically acclaimed illustrated books on a wide range of topics, from culinary to gardening to pop culture to Americana. My interests run the gamut, which means my specialties do as well, though I must give a shout-out to the romance genre, which is what I promoted when I dabbled in publicity before setting up shop as an editor, Chicago Manual of Style in one hand and Merriam-Webster in the other.

I hope you'll give me the opportunity to help make your dream(s) a reality!

I'm so glad I hired J to do a developmental edit on my debut novel. She's communicative, thorough, and enthusiastic. In addition to advising me on structural hiccups like incomplete transitions and underdeveloped plot points, she corrected some typos and grammatical errors that I'd overlooked. Sh...

I'd give Jane 10 stars if I could! Jane was absolutely fantastic to work with and I can't rave about her enough.
